As the calendar slowly creeps from February to March, one of the biggest debates in college basketball continues to rage on: Who will take home this year’s National Player of the Year award. Will it be Kentucky’s Anthony Davis, or Thomas Robinson of Kansas? Jeff Borzello of CBS Sports to talk about both players, their unique developments and more o this episode of the Aaron Torres Sports podcast.

Jeff covers both college basketball as well as recruiting for CBS, and has seen both Davis and Robinson develop from lightly-recruited, raw athletes to the superstars they’ve become. He discussed the two Player of the Year candidates and much more on the podcast, including:
- Davis’ humble beginnings as a 6’3 point guard, and why even after a growth spurt Jeff- and the college basketball world as a whole- still wasn’t sure entirely who he was, or how he’d develop at the college level.
- Why, even after Davis had entrenched himself as one of the top recruits in the country, Jeff still didn’t see him evolving into the offensive player he’d become.
- How impressive it is that Davis has been able to keep his guard skills, despite the growth spurt.
- Moving over to Robinson, what his backstory was, and how- much like Davis- no one could’ve projected superstardom for him when he was in prep school.
- Why the stories of Davis and Robinson prove that both John Calipari and Bill Self aren’t just “recruiters” but actual talent developers as well.
- Moving away from the National Player of the Year race, Jeff names a few mid-major players to keep an eye out on as we head toward March.
- Jeff answers the question I posed earlier in the week: Is this the best group of mid-majors ever?
- And finally, Jeff wraps up by discussing the recruitments of the top two high school players in the country, center Nerlens Noel and Shabazz Muhammad. Are both destined for Kentucky? Or does Syracuse have an outside shot at Noel, and UCLA the upper-hand on Muhammad?
Folks, with college basketball season coming to a close, this is absolutely the podcast you’re going to want to download. Few people in the media have seen both Davis and Robinson to develop into the players they are today, and few are better versed to speak about them then Jeff is.
As for everything else, remember, if you can’t listen to the podcast right here and right now, you can also download it in the iTunes store, or subscribe to the Aaron Torres Sports podcast for updates every time a new episode goes up.
Also, if you’re not following on Twitter you should be, and while you’re there, give Jeff a follow too. Few know their college hoops like Borzello does. Also be sure to download the Aaron Torres Sports App for your iPhone or Android if you haven’t already.
And finally (and this is really important): If you haven’t heard, Aaron Torres Sports has partnered up with Guinness beer, which is trying to throw the biggest St. Patrick’s Day party in the world this March.
Because of it, Guinness has asked me to help you get signed up, and when you do sign up, you could win a FREE trip to Ireland! Yes, I’m being serious. And no, there are no catches. For more information on how you can win that FREE trip to Ireland, just click here for more details.
Also, this is just the first of two podcasts I’ll be running today, as I’ll also be posting an interview I did earlier in the week, with a NASCAR superstar, as he prepares for this weekend’s Daytona 500.
Until then…
